What is the role of a verifier?

The role of a verifier is pivotal in the process of ensuring the accuracy and reliability of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) before they are registered and published. There are two primary types of verifiers responsible for conducting this crucial verification process:

  • Accredited Certification Bodies (see here).
  • Approved Individual Verifiers (see here)

It's important to note that only Individual Verifiers and Accredited Certification Bodies listed on our website are authorized to perform EPD verification within the International EPD System.

Verifiers operate independently and are not directly overseen by the Secretariat. They autonomously seek out assignments, and the Secretariat remains impartial and uninvolved in the transaction between manufacturers and verifiers. This means that the manufacturer and verifier independently manage the verification process, from initial contact to the signing of the verification contract.

For optimal results, we recommend that manufacturers reach out to 2-3 independent verifiers when seeking quotes for verification services.

It's important to note that Individual Verifiers are available to offer their services worldwide, with the exception of Australia and New Zealand, where an additional approval from EPD Australasia is required.

To access the contact details of our approved verifiers, please log in to our EPD Portal. For further assistance, consult our FAQ section, specifically the question titled "How do I get in touch with a verifier?" This resource provides detailed guidance on navigating the process of contacting an approved verifier.
