What is the role of a verifier?

The role of a verifier is crucial in the process of ensuring the accuracy and reliability of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) before they are registered and published in our EPD Library.

There are two types of verifiers responsible for verification:

  • Approved Individual Verifiers (see here)
  • Accredited Certification Bodies (see here)

Approved Individual Verifiers and Accredited Certification Bodies listed on our website are authorized to perform EPD verification within the International EPD System.

All verifiers independently seek verification assignments and are not directly recommended by the Secretariat. The Secretariat does not participate in the transaction between EPD Owners and the verifiers. Instead, EPD Owners and verifiers manage the verification process on their own, from initial contact to signing the verification contract.

For the best results, we suggest reaching out to 2-3 different verifiers to get quotes for verification services. To access contact details for approved verifiers, please log in to our EPD Portal. For further guidance on contacting a verifier, refer to our FAQ section, "How do I get in touch with a verifier?".

Individual verifiers are available to offer their services worldwide, with the exception of Australia and New Zealand, where an additional approval from EPD Australasia is required.
